During the February 6, 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquake sequence, Google's Android Earthquake Alerts system reportedly rated the magnitude-7.8 quake at 4.5–4.9. Only 469 users reportedly got the top-level warning, and about 500,000 got lower-level notices. Researchers estimated roughly 10 million people could have been warned, with up to 35 seconds' notice.

What this means for youAn automated alert on your phone can badly misjudge a disaster, so it should not be your only warning. Households in quake-prone areas can also follow official national alert channels and keep a plan for what to do when shaking starts.
