A retired Gwinnett County, Georgia, couple reported losing nearly $800,000 after a stranger contacted Jerry Dunaway on WhatsApp and urged him to trade cryptocurrency. Police reportedly said scammers used an AI-generated "ghost site" to manipulate the account information he saw. The AI tool was not identified. The loss came to light when a larger withdrawal failed.

What this means for youScammers may use AI-made fake websites to show you balances and gains that are not real. If a stranger on a messaging app pushes you to invest, check by trying a small withdrawal first and talking to someone you trust before sending more money.
