In Cypress, Texas, sheriff's deputies reportedly held two 19-year-old men at gunpoint and handcuffed them. Flock Safety cameras had detected the plate of a stolen Camaro. Deputies then saw a similar car, and later realized it was the wrong one. One man reported cuts and scrapes.

What this means for youAutomated plate readers can point police at the wrong car, and the people inside can be hurt. Communities and local governments can ask how agencies confirm a plate match before approaching a driver.
