Anthropic reported that a northern Yemen-based weapons cell, designated GTG-87001, used Claude Code across three weapons programs to build guidance, navigation, and control software. The group reportedly test-fired a rocket that appeared to fail, then asked Claude to analyse the failure. Anthropic banned the accounts and shared threat intelligence with partners.
What this means for youAI coding tools can be misused by people to help build weapons, and the company running the tool is often the one that spots and stops it. Governments are likely to watch how AI firms detect and report this kind of misuse.
