Discord reportedly banned more than 8,000 accounts after its automated image-moderation workflow flagged harmless uploads such as grids, spreadsheets, chessboards and game images. Discord said a bug turned temporary upload restrictions into account bans and blocked automatic restoration. The company later reinstated the affected accounts.

What this means for youAutomated moderation can lock people out of accounts over ordinary content, and a software bug can make the penalty worse. If you rely on an online account for work or community, keep a backup way to reach your contacts and know how to appeal a ban.
