In February 2025, Otter.ai's Notetaker reportedly recorded and transcribed a Zoom conversation with Justin Brewer, who did not hold an Otter account. He later alleged Otter kept his meeting communications and used the data to train its speech-recognition and machine-learning systems. The claims are allegations.

What this means for youAI note-taking tools can record people who never signed up for them, and the claim is that the data was used for training. Before joining a meeting with a notetaker, check whether everyone has agreed to be recorded and how the recording is stored or reused.
