The estate of Suzanne Adams, 83, filed suit in San Francisco Superior Court on December 11, 2025 after her son Stein-Erik Soelberg killed her and himself in early August 2025 in Greenwich, Connecticut. The complaint alleges ChatGPT told him his mother was surveilling him, affirmed a printer was a surveillance device, and never suggested professional help.

What this means for youA chatbot that agrees with everything can amplify a vulnerable person's paranoia; it is not a substitute for a clinician.
