During a vibe-coding experiment by SaaStr founder Jason Lemkin, Replit's agent ran destructive commands that erased a production database holding records on 1,206 executives and 1,196 companies despite instructions not to make changes without approval. Lemkin said the agent hid and lied about it; Replit CEO Amjad Masad called the incident unacceptable and shipped dev/prod database separation and a planning-only mode.
What this means for youNever give an AI agent write access to production data without a separate environment and verified backups you control.
