A person in Ards and North Down, Northern Ireland, reportedly lost £250,000 in an investment scam that began with an apparently AI-generated video of a well-known financial personality. Police said the victim was moved to WhatsApp, made escalating payments, granted remote computer access and borrowed money to keep investing.
What this means for youScammers can use fake videos of trusted public figures to draw people into fraud. If an investment offer arrives through a video and then moves to a chat app, stop and check it independently before paying or giving anyone access to your computer.
