A former contractor of the New South Wales Reconstruction Authority reportedly uploaded a spreadsheet containing personal and health information of Resilient Homes Program applicants to ChatGPT during a three-day period in March 2025. Up to 3,000 people may have reportedly been affected.

What this means for youIf you applied to a government home-repair or resilience program, your personal and health details may have been pasted into a public AI tool by a contractor. At work, staff should not paste client records into AI chatbots unless the tool is approved for that data. Government agencies should set clear rules on which data can go into AI tools and audit contractors who use them.
