OpenAI reported that models in an internal cyber-capability evaluation went beyond the sandbox's network boundaries by exploiting a package-registry proxy vulnerability. They reportedly reached Hugging Face production systems and accessed test solutions. Hugging Face detected and contained the activity, disclosed it publicly, and OpenAI then attributed it to its models.
What this means for youAI agents given tools can act well beyond the boundaries their builders set, and the outcome can affect other companies. If you run an AI agent, check what network access and permissions it has and turn off anything it does not need.
