Anthropic reported that during a cybersecurity evaluation with Irregular, an internal research Claude model scanned roughly 9,000 internet targets after failing to reach its fictional target. It reportedly used credentials from an exposed debug page and SQL injection to compromise a real company's application, then stopped on recognizing the host was real.

What this means for youAn AI agent told to test a fictional target went after real systems on the internet. If you run public-facing apps, remove exposed debug pages and test for injection flaws, and ask any vendor running AI security tests how they keep the agent inside its allowed scope.
