Waymo filed a software recall with NHTSA on May 14, 2025 covering 1,212 driverless vehicles after its automated driving system struck gates, chains and similar semi-stationary objects in 16 low-speed collisions between 2022 and late 2024, with no injuries reported. The fix was a November 2024 software update; NHTSA's preliminary evaluation of Waymo's system, opened in May 2024, had not been reported closed.

What this means for youDriverless systems on public roads still miss objects a person sees, and the regulator record is where you learn about it, not the company's marketing.
